World Press Photo Exhibition

On Friday after work I stopped into the Royal Festival hall to check out the World Press Photo Exhibition. The subject matter is real and haunting. The beautifully buzzing atmosphere created by the jazz festival musicians at Royal Festival Hall stood in stark contrast to so many of the photos. 

Many of the photos are of extremely serious subjects and having a walk around the festival hall made me realise just how much has happened in the world in 2011. 

If you have a chance, I'd definitely recommend popping in. It's free and powerful.

Arundel

If you're ever looking for a little weekend get-away, I would highly recommend Arundel. About a hour and a half outside of London (depending on where you live I suppose) Arundel has everything you really need for a great break. A cute little farmers market, a few antique shops, an amazing castle and at least one superb restaurant! 

The mister and I stayed at the Town House. Our room looked out over one of the main roads which meant quite a bit of drunken noise but we had one of the loviest meals there, so all and all a wonderful place to stay.

Decorative items

After several months of not really doing anything with our flat, we're back on track with buying furniture and decorating it. It's been a long process that has been slowed continuously by the fact that the mister and I don't agree on a lot. Today we bought a desk, which is one of the last major pieces we need (besides a bed for our guest room). 

I of course, could spend hours looking through home goods stores (both online and in person) and one of the shops I recently came across, I am total smitten over - Samantha Robinson. (and of course, it's in Australia!)

So beautiful! I wish there was no import duty...

Rope walk

On Saturday the mister and I ventured out to Maltby street to have lunch at the market on rope walk. I had read about Maltby Street in last week's time out and since TO claimed that the market was as good as borough but smaller and no crowds, I thought we have to try this!

It was significantly quieter than borough (also significantly smaller with only about 12 shops/stalls on rope walk and the rest spread out further up and down Maltby) which was lovely but it's also not convenient to get to from the tube, at least not in the blisteringly cold wind. 

Regardless we still had a great lunch - I got the brisket and the mister, a pulled pork sandwich.

We didn't end up going to any of the other shops down the road because we ended up poping into an antiques store instead. 

and while most everything in the antiques shop wouldn't jive with the somewhat contemporary feel of our flat, we did both love this wine rack.

Happy bonfire night! I love all holidays (actually, I think I just love celebrating things and having an excuse to bake) so I'm completely embracing bonfire night. Last year the mister and I went over to the Chiswick business park for an epic fireworks display and this year we took a quick jaunt down to the Thames to watch the Barnes fireworks display. (we also just caught Richmond's which was off in the distance and a really lame display over in Chiswick - not bad for a 5 minute walk down the road!)

Pumpkin muffin doughnuts

Having just completed the Whole30, leaping back into the kitchen to bake something filled with sugar isn't exactly what the program prescribes but I was so gutted to have missed out on Halloween baking, it had to be done. I have confessed my love for pumpkin desserts many times over on this blog (here and here) so when deciding what to bake, I was certain it would have pumpkin in it.

I decided on Martha's pumpkin muffin doughnuts, a personal fav (but really anything covered in sugar and cinnamon is an instant hit in my book).

Now, to take them into the office so I'm not tempted to eat the lot.
